About

Author: TR Simms

No matter where I hang my hat I am a country girl. Growing up in Oklahoma, I dedicated myself to finding anything to do… anything, at all, to do. I love sports, history, photography, DIY projects, all things television, and writing. I wrote short stories as a child and teenager. I enjoy poetry, but a bad exchange with a teacher lead to me ending my poetry pursuit.

In 2016, I decided to try adulting and write a novel. When that didn’t work out, I tried a novella and success! I self-published ‘The Last Romanian’ in 2018 (my friends and family loved it). But something happened. I fell in love with short stories. I remembered how much I hated reading novels in school because the authors spent pages talking about some random tree just to fulfill their word count (I assume). I enjoyed short stories due to the concise narrative and discovered it as its own art form.

Think of writing like running. Cross country, 100 meters, etc. All require the athlete to practice and training, but neither is better than the other. It’s just a different sport. Short stories can be 3k or a mini-marathon and writing them requires training and practice.

This brings us here. This blog will focus on short stories as an art form. I’ll work on building up my core; feel free to leave comments or feedback that can help me get grow 😉

‘The Last Romanian by TR Simms

Book Description: On a remote farm in rural America, John wakes every morning in a dilapidated cabin with little memory of his life before. Every day he repeats the day before, step by step. And every day is Tuesday. It has to be. It’s the sacrifice he’s made to save millions. The rest of the people get to live out their days while John lives just one. His body battered, scarred, charred, and aging, John does everything he is supposed to do. He is who they want him to be, and they call him a hero. But something isn’t right about this place, or about him. Only by piecing together his past can he discover his purpose and who he really is. A hero, or just the last one left?
